Ever noticed that the narrative around mental health is usually binary? It implies we’re either mentally healthy or not, which simply isn’t the case.
It wasn’t something that I had considered until I became a founding member of the Mentally Healthy Change Group, a group of 22 passionate volunteers from across the marketing, media and creative industries focused on smashing the stigma around mental health and tackling what I call the ‘creative energy crisis’.
One day I was presenting alongside co-chair of the group, UnLtd CMO Nina Nyman, and she shared the graphic below which has now become foundational to how I work with clients both at an individual and collective level.
As you look at the above consider it from three perspectives.
1. At a personal level, where do you find yourself? Are you investing enough in the healthy skills which enable you to better manage the times when you may find yourself moving towards the right?
2. At a team level, how do you support each other to spend more time on the far left? Do you know what to do to support a colleague who may find themselves on the right?
3. At the business level, is there investment right along the continuum to create a mentally healthy workplace, or is it patchy or even non-existent in places?
If you feel you have gaps in any of these areas and care about closing them get in touch.
